(RacingWire) – U.S. race fans who aren't able to access ESPN3.com will not be able to see live coverage of American LeMans Series races on the series' website as was originally planned.
Series' officials tell RacingWire they were informed of the change from ESPN “this week”, leaving fans without access to ESPN3.com unable to watch any live coverage of the 12 Hours of Sebring.
When asked what fans who don't get the Internet feed should do; Bob Dickinson ALMS' VP of Public Relations/Media Services said, “we would ask them to watch the ABC broadcast on Sunday.”
The ABC broadcast is a 1 hour, 30 minute highlight show, not a taped delayed broadcast of the race.
Past broadcasts of the race included many live hours of race coverage and were available on SPEED Channel via most cable providers and on both DIRECTV and the DISH Network.
ALMS officials say the number of people with access to ESPN3.com is comparable to the number of viewers who receive SPEED.
The difference is, anyone who wanted SPEED had the option to choose one of the satellite providers for their TV content. Web users don't have that option. They are limited to the Internet service provided in their current location.
