(RacingWire) -The Patron Highcroft team is doing the motor sports equivalent to climbing Mount Everest. Their LMP1 Acura was destroyed in a practice crash yesterday. The car isn't fixable prior to the start of the Petit LeMans and the team doesn't have a backup car, so they went to 'Plan B'.
'Plan B' was to have a fresh tub flown in from California and for the team to build a car in a little more than 24 hours. The team worked hard yesterday and this morning to build up parts and components to bolt to the tub when it arrived this morning from Atlanta's Hartsfield airport.
The tub landed at 7:10 a.m. ET and the team delivered it to the paddock at 9:15 a.m.
The team immediately went to work attaching the gearbox, engine and chassis parts.
As of 5 p.m. ET the engine, gearbox and rear end is complete. The team is now wiring the car and adding the steering system and front suspension.
Work is expected to go deep into the night. Team representative tell RacingWire they are hopeful the car will make it the grid for the 11 a.m. ET green flag Saturday. Keep checking RacingWire.info for continued updates.
