(RacingWire) - A woman attending the NHRA Arizona Nationals was killed after she was struck by a wheel from Antron Brown's Top Fuel dragster.
The NHRA confirmed the incident in a news release Sunday evening.
It is unclear whether the woman was a spectator or a participant in the event. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The woman's name has not yet been released.
Coverage of the crash on ESPN2 showed the left rear wheel came off Brown's car sending it on a wild ride towards the left lane retaining wall.
Brown's car rode the wall on its side until finally coming to a rest. Brown was uninjured.
"The entire NHRA community is deeply saddened by today's incident and sends its thoughts and prayers to the woman's family and friends,” a statement from the NHRA read.
The NHRA is investigating this incident.
This is the second fatality at an NHRA National event I as many years. Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta was killed in an crash June 21, 2008 at the NHRA Supernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.
