(RacingWire) - Formula One veteran Nick Heidfeld will join Lotus Renault for the previously schedule F1 test later this week at Jerez. Hedifeld will be evaluaed as a possible standin for the injured Robert Kubica.
The annoucement was made via the team's website.
At the test Heidfeld will join the team's other primary driver Vitaly Petrov and the team's backup test driver Bruno Senna, also a potential replacement for Kubica.
Kubica was seriously injured Sunday in a crash at a rally event in Italy.
