(RacingWire) - Polish Formula One star Robert Kubica underwent successful surgery on his elbow Wednesday as his recovery from a serious rally crash continues.
Kubica was on the operating table for eight hours according to information provided Lotus Renault F1.
"The operation lasted eight hours in order to stabilise and reconstruct the damaged fragments of the delicate joint structure," the team said. "At the end of the surgery, the doctors were pleased with the outcome, with the procedure being completed successfully,"
Doctors hope this will be the last operation the F1 driver will need after his crash at an Italian rally event.
Kubica was critically injured in the crash and has had a series of surgeries to repari fractures to his arm, hand, leg and most recently his elbow.
The Lotus Renault driver's injuries were so severe at one point doctors were worried they wouldn't be able to save his hand.
