(RacingWire) - After months of speculation the driver lineup for USF1's freshman season seems to be a bit clearer.
Jose Maria Lopez has signed a conditional deal with the Charlotte based team to be one of its two drivers for 2010. The deal was confirmed on Lopez's personal website.
The 26-year-old Argentine driver visited USF1's Charlotte headquarters this week to ink the deal. His was a Renault F1 test driver in 2006 and he has raced in Formula 3000 and GP2. He has raced sports cars and touring cars since 2007.
USF1's desire to have an American driver in the seat for the first season is nearly impossible because the only American to currently hold a Super License is Scott Speed. Speed is under contract to drive Red Bull's Sprint Cup Toyota through 2010.
Lopez's deal is contingent on securing the proper funding for the 2010 season.
