(RacingWire) - The FIA granted Sauber F1 the final spot on the 2010 Formula One grid Thursday. Sauber had relinquished its spot when BMW announced earlier this year that it would not contest the 2010 season.
Subsequently, the team was taken over by its original owner Peter Sauber and the squad asked to be reinstated by the FIA.
The FIA is expanding the Formula One field for 2010 to 26 cars with the inclusion of new teams; USF1, Campos Meta 1, Virgin Racing and Lotus F1.
There was some opposition to expanding the field even further to allow Sauber to race.
The way was cleared for Sauber's return after Toyota announced it was withdrawing its team from the 2010 World Championship season.
The team hasn't announced its driver lineup or sponsors for 2010.
