(RacingWire) - USF1 team boss Ken Anderson has reportedly asked the FIA to hold the team's entry until 2011 and the team has ceased operations at it's Charlotte, N.C. Facility.
Anderson has told Autosport.com, "We are waiting for a reply from the FIA and are working with them. In the mean time, there is nothing for the employees to do, so we have told them to stop working on the current car until we have a decision."
Despite annoucing at a news conference in February 2009 that the team had the capital in place to run the 2010 season the team has been plagued by lack funds. It is reported that several sponsors have backed out.
Serbian based Stefan GP is hoping to take the USF1 spot on the Formula One grid in 2010. Even without an FIA entry the team says it has built a car and is ready to announce a driver lineup.
A release on Stefan GP's website read, “SGP would like to re-confirm its desire and, importantly, its ability to compete in the whole of the FIA 2010 Formula One World Championship.”
“It recognises that this can only happen with the consent of the FIA and the FOM, but has faith that the Formula One 'family' will make the correct decision in the end.”
“There will be no more press releases on this subject and we look forward to being allowed to show everyone our team in Bahrain.”
This poses a problem for the FIA if it intends to grant USF1 an extension until 2011. If Stefan GP were given a 2010 entry it is unlikely to be a one year deal.
If there isn't a futher expansion of the F1 grid there would be no room for USF1 in the 2011 World Championship.
RacingWire attempted to reach USF1 for comment on this story but the phone number at their Charlotte office is disconnected and Peter Windsor's cell phone isn't currently taking calls.
