(Racing Wire) - The FIA has slapped Ferrari with a $100,000 fine for issuing team orders in Sunday's German Grand Prix, this according to published reports.
The fine stems from a Fernando Alonso pass of Felipe Massa on lap 48 of the race. It appeared that Massa slowed considerably letting Alonso by and in effect handing the Spaniard the victory.
Massa was informed via his team radio prior to the incident that his teammate was faster than him. It is believed that was the team's coded message to Massa to let Alonso by.
The team wasn not penalized race positions or championship points.
The incident has also been referred to the FIA Council for further review.
Ferrari F1 has said it has no plans to appeal the fine.
