Every now and again people say the strangest things.  Things that make you scratch your head and rewind the DVR just to make sure you heard what you thought you just heard.  That is the motivation behind RacingWire's on-going feature "They Said What???", which will poke a little good-hearted fun at those of us (myself included) who might say or write something that makes you think... they said what?

How many digits are in the number 121?  During Fox Sports' coverage of the 2009 Auto Club 500 a discussion ensued about Dan Gurney and the fact that he was the first Californian to win a NASCAR race in California.  During the banter it was mentioned that Gurney's car carried the number 121 which Darrell Waltrip explained this way, "You gotta have two digits and he had 1 and 21."  Waltrip's co-hosts Mike Joy and Larry McRenyolds never questioned the comment and continued the coverage without skipping a beat.
