(RacingWire) – It was a long time coming for Andretti Autosport's Tony Kanaan who drove past Penske Racing's Helio Castroneves with 10 laps to go to win the Iowa Corn Indy 250.
It was Kanaan's first win since Richmond in 2008.
Kanaan was in or near the lead all day, and was able to pull away from Castroneves after passing him for the lead.
Castroneves finished second and KV Racing's E.J. Viso finished third, his best IndyCar finish to date.
Points leader Dario Franchitti ran into trouble late in the race when gearbox problems forced him to pit lane for a lengthy repair.
Franchitti's gear box problems forced him to third place in the points. Will Power fifth place victory was enough to propel him to first place in the points standings. Scott Dixon took over second in the fight for the championship.
