(RacingWire) – Will Power passed Justin Wilson late in race and went on to win the Honda Indy Toronto for his fourth win of the 2010 season.
Power's win puts his Penske team 42 points ahead of Dario Franchitti who finished second.
The race was a typical street race crash fest with five full course yellows slowing the action during the middle of the race.
After 17 green flag laps to open the race the second quarter of the race was marred by four back-to-back full course cautions.
The first yellow came out when Takuma Sato was put into the wall by teammate Mario Moraes bringing Sato's day to the end.
On the restart on lap 22 Helio Castroneves ran into the rear of Vitor Meira's second place car putting Castroneves air-born and hard into the tire barrier. Castroneves was unhurt but his day was done.
Alex Lloyd was unable to get to through the firs turn on the ensuing restart bringing out yet another full course caution.
Paul Tracy, racing in front of his hometown fans stayed out when most of the rest of the field stopped during the first yellow. Tracy led for the next 15 laps mostly under caution. Tracy's team was hoping using a different fuel strategy might give him an advantage at the end of the race..
Milka Dunno was parked by series officials early in the race for not keeping pace.
On lap 32 Moraes took out Mario Romancini, his second victim of the day. Moraes was slapped with a drive through penalty for avoidable contact.
Dario Franchitti controlled the middle of the race leading Will Power and pole sitter Justin Wilson.
Green flag pit stops began on lap 52 and when the field cycled through Wilson regained the lead followed by Power and Franchitti.
On lap 62 Ryan Briscoe and Graham Rahal came together going into turn three sending Briscoe into the wall and taking off his nose.
On the restart with 14 laps to go Power moved past Wilson who spun his tires coming to the green flag. Then Ryan Hunter-Reay got into Scott Dixon going into turn three ending Dixon's day with front suspension damage.
Later in the lap, Wilson lost it all by himself going into turn eight and had to wait for the entire field to go by before turning around to rejoin the field. The spin effectively ended Wilson's chance for a podium finish.
Power led the field to green on the restart with nine laps to go and never looked back. Franchitti, Hunter-Reay, Tony Kanaan and Rahal rounded out the top five. Danica Patrick was sixth and the first of two women to finish in the top ten. Wilson worked his way back to a seventh place finish, Marco Andretti, Simona De Silvestro, and Dan Wheldon finished eighth through tenth respectively.
De Silvestro's ninth place finish was the best of her career.
