(RacingWire) - NASCAR has placed Robby Gordon on probation after what is being described as an "incident" with fellow driver Kevin Conway in the garage area at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
An alleged altercation occurred Friday afternoon following Sprint Cup qualifying.
Published reports about the incident indicated there was a heated argument in the garage between the drivers that may have become physical.
NASCAR Senior Director of Competition Communications Kerry Tharp provided RacingWire with the following statement, "NASCAR has placed driver Robby Gordon on probation this morning – due to his involvement in an incident in the garage following qualifying late Friday afternoon. His actions were brought to our attention early last night – we met this morning and reviewed the situation and reacted accordingly. And, we’ll continue to look at it."
Gordon is suing Conway's sponsor Extenze after the company allegedly defaulted on a sponsorship agreement last year. Conway, in turn, is suing Gordon for money he says Gordon owes him for winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2010.
Las Vegas Police are reportedly investigating the incident. There is no word yet on whether charges will be filed.
