
(RacingWire) - Matt Kenseth won the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on a night when Jimmie Johnson's hopes for a sixth straight championship took a huge hit as the defending champ had a big impact with the safer barrier ending his night early.
Kyle Busch was second and Carl Edwards was third.
Edwards extended his championship lead to five points over second place Kevin Harvick.
The win lifts Kenseth to second place in the championship standings.
